The main street houses a wealth of the unique and quirky, whether you’re after that vintage souvenir, or the local produce you’ll likely have to look no further. You’ll also find the staples of any Australian high street, with the more typical chain stores providing everything from clothes to food.
AIRLIE BEACH LAGOON
Nestled in the heart of Airlie Beach parkland is the spectacular swimming lagoon.
The lagoon is the heart of the community with locals and guests soaking up the tranquility of this idyllic hideaway; whether you’re sneaking away with a book for a few hour, or having a BBQ with a few friends, this is a great spot to lose an afternoon or two at.
Tucked away in the fertile, tropical rainforests of Conway National Park; Airlie Beach has everything from secluded beaches, waterfalls, bush walks and scenic drives to satisfy your ‘back to nature’ getaway.
A couple of the best walking trails include; The Airlie Creek Track and The Whitsunday Great Walk. Both have been split up into sections according to intensity; but offer the opportunity to explore unrivalled views of the Coral Sea, and make the most of the local flora and fauna.
Cedar Creek Falls! A quick detour of Shute Harbour road, between Airlie and Proserpine, and you’ll find yourself stood before the beautiful natural waterhole of Cedar Creek. The ideal way to cool off during the hotter season; and an even more spectacular on the wetter days.
FESTIVALS AND EVENTS
There’s always something happening; from the Reef Festival in late July early August, to the full moon parties; there’s always a must see event in Airlie. If you’re booking accommodation and tours, just make sure to ask what’s happening this week!
GET OUT ON THE REEF
Whether it’s the buzzing nightlife that’s calling you to Airlie Beach, or the peace and serenity of the reef; everyone agrees that getting your sea legs and spending a few days snorkelling with the beautiful and the bizarre; and capturing that perfect photograph of the swirling sands of Whitehaven beach; are a must!
During the busier seasons, booking overnight boat tours in advance is definitely worth the effort to ensure you get the most from your island getaway; but don’t be afraid to ask around if you haven’t managed to book something; last minute deals can be very profitable, and the experience will last a lifetime!
