Camping on Whitehaven Beach
Whitehaven Beach is one of the most iconic beaches in Australia and has been voted a number one beach worldwide. It is a must-see for anyone in the Whitsundays, with many trips and tours visiting there daily so roving tourists and locals can witness its iconic beauty. The stunning Whitehaven is famous for its white silica sand that has been hundreds of thousands of years in the making, as well as its untouched beaches and warm azure waters. The beach surrounded by picturesque tropical rainforest and has several lookout points on the trail to Hill Inlet Lookout, ensuring all of its visitors have the amazing tropical backdrop the beach is known for.
It is one of the most visited and photographed places in all of Australia and is known to be great for swimming, sunbathing, exploring and even camping!
With 7 campsites that can accommodate up to 36 people at a time, it is only accessible by boat and provides a rustic atmosphere from which to enjoy the beautiful Whitsundays. There are only basic amenities available to campers such as hybrid toilets and picnic tables but the appeal of this sort of camping is that you bring everything with you and then take it with you when you leave. It's a raw way to enjoy the national park, allowing you to wake up on one of the most beautiful beaches in the world before anyone else arrives to see it in its natural, untouched state.
Because it is a national park, there are rules that come along with being allowed to camp on Whitehaven, among them are: there are no open fires permitted, no generators allowed and you must take all your garbage with you when you leave. The national park is a protected area that is meant to be treated as such, and it's extremely important that campers abide by the rules and leave the area as they found it, leaving nothing behind. You must also have a valid permit to camp, but fortunately, they are reasonably priced and easily accessible. You can apply for them here.
